Several teachers on Oil City Area School District’s reading resource committee attended Monday evening’s school board meeting, where one of their number stepped forward to express frustration over the fact that their recommendation for a reading curriculum was being disregarded.

At the beginning of the meeting, Stacia Fennick, a fifth grade teacher, addressed the school board regarding the phonics-based reading curriculum 95% Group, a curriculum which was recommended unanimously by the district’s reading resource committee, made up of 10 elementary and middle school teachers, including Fennick.
