The following are today’s and Sunday’s listings for local PBS stations:
Ever since a hawk hovered over a vigil for her murdered son and lifted her spirits, Georgia mother Michele Davis has found joy in unexpected ways. Eight years after 17-year-old Carter Davis and his friend were killed in a random attack that sent fear through Atlanta’s northern suburbs, one of Davis’ former students wrote a song about her son. He later made it to the TV show “American Idol,” which plans to air his performance of it during its season premiere on Sunday. Davis sees the song as the latest sign that her son is OK.

In the days that followed, mystery swirled around the deaths. Then authorities in New Mexico released the causes Friday. They proposed a simple but tragic theory for the deaths: Shortly after Arakawa’s death from a rare infection, Hackman died, apparently unable to seek help after his wife died.

Research by the charity English Heritage suggests it may have found a portrait of England's shortest-reigning queen Lady Jane Grey. It said Friday that there is “compelling” evidence that a portrait loaned from a private collection could well one of Jane. If true, it would be the only portrait of Jane painted during her lifetime. Jane governed for nine days in July 1553. She was deposed nine days later after her support melted away in the wake of her older sister Mary’s uprising. Jane was subsequently convicted of treason and sentenced to death. She is undoubtedly one of the most tragic figures in English regal history.
Lady Gaga has returned. The pop star's latest album is “Mayhem.” In her review, Associated Press Music Writer Maria Sherman writes that Gaga has reclaimed her early dark-pop sensibilities and ushered them into her 2025 reality. Lady Gaga sounds like she is having fun here. Sherman says that “Mayhem” will sound familiar to Gaga listeners, there’s no doubt about that. But they will hear an evolved version. “Mayhem” is not an easy play at nostalgia. It is also not an artist appeasing contemporary trends. It is Gaga staying true to herself, as she has been known to do.
Meghan Markle’s new Netflix show, “With Love, Meghan,” is being slammed by critics after its premiere on the streamer Tuesday.

The extension makes Smith ESPN’s highest-paid talent. Fox Sports NFL analyst Tom Brady remains the top sports host or commentator with a 10-year deal that averages $37.5 million per year.
Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan scored a fair-sized sensation with his 1996 Canadian Opera Company production of the Richard Strauss opera “Salome” — the one about the stepdaughter of the depraved King Herod, her Dance of the Seven Veils, Salome’s lust for John the Baptist and the circumstanc…

The song enters the pantheon of great, big-hearted Parton ballads. At the end, Parton's big voice retreats into a whisper when she delivers the song’s titular line. “I wouldn’t be here, If you hadn’t been there," she sings.
Green tears were flowing when Lencia Kebede made history this week on Broadway, becoming the first Black actor to assume the role of Elphaba full time in the Broadway company of “Wicked.” Kebede, a first-generation Ethiopian-American from Los Angeles, spent five years touring with “Hamilton,” most recently in the role of Angelica Schuyler. Stepping into “Wicked” on Tuesday marked her Broadway debut. In the audience were some 60 family and friends — mom and her aunts and uncles, her many cousins, her boyfriend, pals from other shows, her agent and casting directors, even her college choir director. The actor calls the experience "electric.”
CHICAGO — Some movies speak loudly and carry a big cultural-impact stick. In the ’70s, for example: the first “Godfather” film, the second, even better one, or even bigger, “Jaws.” And “Star Wars.” They have stuck around as something more than hit movies.
Sometimes, a great new television series arrives with loud announcements and general heralding; sometimes, one slips in quietly as if on slippered feet, declining to call attention to itself. I don’t know why there weren’t pronouncements from the hilltops when “Asura,” the new series from th…

'Let the waltz begin!' Vienna's ball season has 18th century roots, but teens now go online to dance
From its 18th century roots, Vienna’s celebrated ball season has evolved and now involves teenagers learning to waltz by watching YouTube videos and ladies shedding their elbow-length gloves to better swipe on smartphones. More than 450 balls occur annually in Vienna, taking place from Nov. 11 to mark the start of carnival season to Ash Wednesday before Lent begins. Professional guilds throughout the city host their own events, like the Ball of the Viennese Chimney Sweeps that marks the opening of the season. The events are deeply rooted in Austrian and Viennese culture, blending history with modern glamour, and the waltz remains an essential part.

Seven years ago, global pop phenomenon Jennie became the first member of the K-pop group Blackpink to release solo music. On Friday she becomes the latest to drop a debut solo studio album. It is called “Ruby.” It’s a kaleidoscope of different sounds for Jennie, full of incongruous, polished pleasures, The Associated Press' Maria Sherman writes in her review. As a whole, Jennie’s “Ruby” is a fine re-introduction to the Blackpink superstar. The songs are strong and diverse but maybe not wholly distinctive. It is reason to be excited for her future solo work and where she may go from here.
Bad Bunny’s sports representation firm and the Major League Baseball Players Association have filed an agreement to dismiss the union’s lawsuit over penalties imposed for making improper inducements. It revoked the agent certification of Rimas’ William Arroyo and denied certifications of executives Noah Assad and Jonathan Miranda. An arbitrator Ruth upheld five-year suspensions of Assad and Miranda and cut Arroyo’s suspension to three years.

If pro wrestling is life, and more and more it's looking like it is, "Queen of the Ring" is strictly a midcard affair.
If Ben Affleck can’t rekindle his romance with Jennifer Garner, the actor, director and production company head could at least show his regard for his ex-wife by casting her in a movie that would finally show her “true talents,” according to a new report.
Carson Lund's “Eephus,” as leisurely as a late-August double header, simply unfolds along with a men's recreational baseball game. Except to chase a foul ball or two, the movie stays within the lines of their field. It spans nine innings, with dugout chatter and fading light. In this slow-pitch gem of a baseball movie – a middle-aged “Sandlot” – time is slipping away, but they’re going down swinging. In AP Film Writer Jake Coyle's review, he writes that “Eephus' is the best baseball movie since ”Moneyball." To call this a field of dreams would be pushing it. But it’s a lovely way to pass some time.

ATLANTA — “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” was once one of the most popular reality shows on TV, a buzzy injection of petty arguments, shady but funny commentary and glitzy outfits.
If any one piece defines Chloé under Chemena Kamali, it’s the blouse. Billowy, ruffled, effortless, and deeply romantic, it captured the essence of her third collection for the house. Kamali’s Chloé woman moves through time—referencing history but never stuck in it—just like the women who sat in the front row, Jerry Hall and Georgia May Jagger, icons of past and present Chloé cool.Chloé has long been a house that champions women, both in its design ethos and leadership. While some major womenswear brands continue to be helmed by men, Chloé has laudably remained a platform for female designers, shaping fashion through their perspective. Kamali, now three collections in, continues to refine her vision within that tradition.
You have questions. I have some answers.

The serials are a source of escapism and intrigue for Indians and offer a tantalizing glimpse into the lives of their neighbors that is helping break through decades of enmity between the two governments. Although it’s hard for Indians to visit the country where these shows are filmed, they faithfully follow the plot twists and turns through YouTube and other platforms. Says one Pakistani director: They're just like us.

It’s God’s gift for humankind,” he said. During his latest concert at Mexico City's Catholic cathedral, Krämer performed various pieces in the two organs located inside. His performance kicked off a season of sacred music concerts that will be subsequently announced throughout 2025.
