For educational institutions all across the country, 2024 was a year marked by disagreements over changes made to Title IX, a portion of the Civil Rights Act that was first signed into law over a half-century ago, on June 23, 1972, by President Richard Nixon.

There was some sad news on the local education scene in 2024 as Venango Catholic High School, which had stood tall on Oil City’s West End for 62 years, closed its doors, marking the end of an era for secondary Catholic education in the tri-county area.
