Throughout 2024, the YWCA of Oil City had a blast as they celebrated 100 years serving the community. A few of the highlights included having a float in the annual Oil Heritage Parade, organizing and implementing an engraved brick project, having their history highlighted in the Hidden Heritage Publication, Volume 62 and celebrating their longevity by hosting a special Centennial Champagne Celebration with their long-standing members and community supporters.
In addition to the special events, the YWCA continued to provide the amazing programs and community events they have come to be known for.
Jane Horos, the YWCA Fitness Director, and her incredible team of fitness instructors kept the members moving with their never-ending energy and gifts of blessing this community with a variety of up-to-date exercise classes and top-of-the-line exercise equipment in a comfortable space created just for women.
Insurance supported programs, such as Silver Sneakers, Renew Active, Fiton and Active & Fit Direct thrive at the YWCA, helping to keep aging community members physically and socially active and engaged.
The YWCA Youth Director Lisa Straub continues to provide fun and engaging activities for local youth. Some of the most popular happenings include: Jr. Chef’s and Safe Sitter classes, Princess Tea, Tot Time, and of course their annual Starlight Ball held at the Knights of Columbus continues to provide a fabulous night for local students to dress up and enjoy a night of dancing with their friends. It is always a smashing success, and many past attendees are now gracing the floor as volunteer chaperones. New in 2025, Straub will be adding a Superhero event and a Jr. Gardeners class.
The YWCA continues to sponsor the Summer Playground Program under the direction of Evan Basham. Summer Playground, funded by the Samuel Justus Charitable Trust, serves hundreds of youth each summer.
No year at the YWCA is complete without the yearly community happenings organized by Events Coordinator Erica Casper, in which they have become known for seasonally, such as their spring Antique Show, summer Spaghetti Supper, fall Yard Sale and winter Sweet Treats event.
Jessica Hoffman, a board member, yoga instructor and massage therapist also offers a great variety of services to help relax and rejuvenate members.
As 2024 came to an end, the YWCA closed a chapter in their history by saying goodbye to Jenifer Friedhaber, their Executive Director of 27 years. Before departing, the YWCA Board of Directors was sure to find a great lady to replace Jennifer. The YWCA is excited to announce Kammi Mooney as their new director. Kammi is excited and committed to carrying on the traditions and programs into the future.
